The Wood Co-op works hard to develop the best in contemporary and innovative British Columbian design, representing both emerging and established artisans. Our Granville Island Gallery has become the definitive location for value-added woodworking in western Canada. The Wood Co-op Gallery offers the artisan the opportunity for national and international exposure; our website, with profile pages for artisans, offers another venue for truly global exposure. Underlying the Co-op is the recognition of the needs of the associated membership to derive financial stability from a sustainable forestry economy, and a dedication to helping our artisans to develop professionally and successfully.
The Wood Co-op evaluates designs based on originality of design (work from patterns and designs from books are not acceptable), quality of craftsmanship (good design and presentation and technical competency), and overall saleability and marketability (contemporary style and uniqueness of design). Representation by The Wood Co-op is decided by a jury panel of professionals from both within the Wood Co-op and the industry at large; we accept applications twice a year, on March and September 15th respectively. For more information on the jury process please see www.woodco-op.org.
