Donald W. Fortin

Statement

Born and raised in British Columbia, Don now resides in the Sunny Okanagan. It is here in the wood shop behind his home, that the DWF Box is created.

Don has brought his own style to the common wood box. By using various types of hardwoods that come from all over the globe, Don is able to take this wood and combine the different types and produce a contrast that stands out on its own. He will put in that extra effort to produce an eye- catching product that will bring out the curiosity in every one of us.

Yes you will not be able to walk by a DWF box with out lifting the lid to see what is inside. Once inside the attention to detail continues right on down to the padded floor. Don started his woodworking passion in the year 2000. It was something he had always wanted to do, but was never able to find the time with his career. Don's natural passion for wood mastery has made it possible to bring undeniable beauty into his designs. After a lot of trial and error Don was able to come up with a gallery of products that is not seen anywhere else. The contrasting laminating, the hinges, the feet, all add up to a one of a kind product that is exemplary.

Don likes to keep the natural look of the wood. That means no stain to any of the wood. The finish is usually three to five coats of tung oil and then hand waxed that bring out the natural beauty and warmth of the wood. This process alone can take up to a week to complete, for a final completion time of 25 to 48 hours depending on the piece.

All Don's work is numbered and signed, accompanied with an interesting detailed history of the wood used and sometimes how the wood was acquired.
